Saint George's Day

This thursday, 23rd April, we celebrate Saint George’s day.

We celebrate this day giving roses to the girls and books to the boys when they are in love.

But what exactly is the legend of Saint George?

Saint George was born in ca. 275/281 and he died on April 23, 303, like Sheakespeare and Cervantes.

He worked in the Guard of Emperor Diocletian as a Roman soldier.

People say that he was a Christian martyr, he also is one of the most venerated Saints in many churches of the catholic religion. Also, he is on of the most popular Saints in all world.

The most important history of Saint George is that one about Saint George and the dragon:

A lot of years ago, there was a town that was terrified by a dragon, the people, for survive, give some animals to the dragon, but one day, the animals extinct, after lots of discussions, they decide that they must sacrifice a person per day. One day, the king’s daughter was selected to be sacrificed, so the villagers leave the princess in front of the lake of the dragon. When the dragon attacks the Princess, Saint George appears and kill the dragon, after some seconds, from the blood of the dragon a rose starts growing, Saint George pick one up and gave it to the Princess, to thank that he has killed the Dragon, the king offers him the hand of his daughter, but Saint George refuse it because he must fight the evil in other places in the world and leave the town.

St George’s day is also important because is when Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare died.

In Catalonia, we celebrate St. George as that the girls must give a book to the boys and the boys a rose to the girls, it's a festive day and in our school we do a championship about writing little stories, the best one win about 30euros!.

Exchange De Nassau - Salvador Espriu

Two weeks ago, a group of Dutch students from Breda came to Barcelona. They were doing an exchange with some Catalan students, from our school. They stayed in Barcelona for a week, sleeping at their partners homes and visiting some tourist sites (Sagrada Família, La Pedrera...). Our school is taking part in this exchange so that we can improve our level of English.
The first day we met them in the school. After playing a game that had the objective of breaking the ice, we went with our exchange partner and we showed them some leaflets that were about some of the monuments that they were going to see.
